Tressa Thomas

Tressa Thomas is a socially-engaged artist and educator with a focus on the transformative power of embodiment. Tressa's making and teaching ethos relies on the belief that one of our greatest tasks as creatives is to learn to recenter the body. Her practice is rooted in material-led and body-led making, asking participants and viewers to understand material, space, and body as equal partners within the creative process. Rooted in notions of material vibrancy and embodiment as an ecological practice, Tressa's work seeks to pull us away from a capitalist model of production and value and to instead help us foster a reciprocal relationship with nonhuman and material worlds.

Tressa’s recent projects include: ‘Points of Contact’ exhibition as In The Making with creative partner Maia Walton (2023) and crafting an outdoor installation for Plymouth’s Central Park (2023), and teaching Ceramics 101 workshops with Stoke Village Hub (2022).

Tressa works as a facilitator at Black Mountains College and as a visiting lecturer at Arts University Plymouth Pre-Degree.
