Wax carving offers a more sculptural approach to jewellery-making than traditional techniques, allowing you to achieve unique, detailed jewellery designs and even incorporate organic forms and textures.
In this workshop, Bonnie will guide you to create your own pendant or ring using a mixture of traditional and experimental wax carving techniques. Once you have created your design in wax, it will then be posted to a casting company and lost wax cast into a metal of your choice (lost wax casting is not included in this workshop, but the process will be explained for you to understand).
It is advised that you have a rough idea of what you want to make before starting this workshop, to allow more time for making... I’m excited to see what you come up with!

Workshop Structure:
● Introduction to wax carving, and the different specialist waxes and tools you can use.
● Draw, share and discuss design ideas with Bonnie, to work out how best to approach them.
● Learn how to cut, carve and manipulate wax to realise your designs.
● Prepare your piece for casting by adding sprues, with an explanation of the lost wax casting process.
Please note:
This workshop does not include lost wax casting. For items to be cast, additional charges will apply based on which metal you choose for your finished piece of jewellery to be cast in (silver, gold, etc). Bonnie will send the pieces to a casting company after the workshop. When they return, Bonnie will finish the items and arrange collection/postage with you.

Casting and Finishing Pricing Estimates:
We will be able to discuss and work out casting costs per person, as this will vary based on size and weight. To get a rough idea, an average-sized ring/pendant to be cast in silver and finished (by Bonnie) will cost between £25 - £35. Chains for pendants will be an additional £5+.
Other finishing options include gold plating, this might appeal to those who prefer to wear gold but want a more affordable option. I’m happy to discuss prices for this with you as it will vary per person.
